MHFAI allows and supports the co-delivery of courses where applicable. The rules supporting this are outlined in the Instructor License Agreement.
Co-delivery can be beneficial for participants and Instructors alike, however, there is no obligation for Instructors to accept requests for co-delivery. If you are seeking another licensed Instructor for co-delivery, it is important to be respectful of the effort taken to establish a course and find participants. Care ought to be taken in ensuring the co-delivery is mutually beneficial for both Instructors.
- Having two Instructors co-deliver does not mean you can double your class size.
- Instructors are not permitted to ask another Instructor to add them to a course for co-delivery if they are not going to be present the whole time.
A Licensed Co-Facilitating MHFA Instructor is defined as a current Licensed MHFA Instructor who can support the Lead Licensed MHFA Instructor and co-deliver some topics within a course delivery.
You can co-deliver a course (that you are licensed to deliver) with another Licensed MHFA Instructor. The Licensed Co-Facilitating MHFA Instructor must also be licensed to deliver that course. Both Licensed MHFA Instructors must remain present throughout the entirety of the training. Both Instructors will gain recognition of this course delivery towards their respective license maintenance requirements.
The following table outlines which Instructors can be listed as a Licensed Co-Facilitating MHFA Instructor for a given course. MHFAI systems will be configured to allow the Lead Instructor to choose their Licensed Co-Facilitating MHFA Instructor solely based on the criteria outlined below. Instructors who do not appear in the search list on the MHFAI system are not eligible to co-deliver the course.
Supporting the delivery of Courses :
A Supporting Licensed MHFA Instructor is defined as someone who can provide practical support to the Lead Instructor during the course delivery. They cannot deliver any component of the course. These Instructors must be current Licensed MHFA Instructors and will typically be ones who do not meet the criteria of a Licensed Co-Facilitating MHFA Instructor for a given course delivery (see the table on the previous page).
- Supporting Licensed MHFA Instructors are limited to being able to provide practical support to the Lead Instructor during delivery. This does not include delivery of the content.
- Practical support includes activity management (setting up break out room, group logistics, distributing materials), supporting participants in the session, and other actions that support the Lead Instructor
- The Supporting Licensed MHFA Instructor will not be able to gain recognition of this course towards their license maintenance.
Some reasons for considering co-delivery include:
- Increased capacity to notice and respond to distressed participants
- A chance to experience another Instructors presentation style, delivery, and management of activities and questions
- An opportunity for constructive feedback and support
- A chance for new Instructors to build confidence in their first few courses after an ITC
