Mental Health First Aid Australia has introduced online Instructor Training Courses in 2026.
This change expands access for people across Australia – and particularly those in regional, rural and remote communities who have previously faced barriers to attending in-person training.
While face-to-face learning remains a core part of our delivery, online ITCs offer a flexible option that helps more people gain the skills they need to support their workplaces and communities. This is particularly important in regional and remote areas where early intervention and prevention rely on local capacity. This option helps overcome barriers related to distance, travel costs, and time away from work, better supporting those aspiring to become an Instructor.
Online ITCs use the same high-quality curriculum, delivered live by our experienced Trainers with interactive discussions and practical activities. It’s a new format, delivered with the same commitment to building skilled, confident Instructors across the country.
Why are online ITCs being introduced now?
Participant and provider feedback highlighted that access is a challenge for many. Offering an online option ensures people everywhere have a fair opportunity to complete their training.
Will online ITCs be the same quality as in-person training?
Yes. The content, Trainer expertise and assessment requirements remain the same. The online format has been carefully adapted to ensure strong engagement and support.
Can individuals or groups still choose in-person ITCs?
Yes. In-person ITCs will continue, with the online option providing additional choice.
Why are online ITCs the same price as face-to-face ITCs?
Online ITCs require the same level of Trainer preparation, delivery and assessment. To maintain quality in the virtual environment, courses are intentionally run in smaller groups so Trainers can provide close support, observation and feedback. This keeps delivery costs comparable to face-to-face courses and ensures a consistently high-quality experience for all new Instructors.
